Movember gets tastier
It was once de rigueur among the world’s top chefs.
Locally, the much-loved veteran icon Ian 'Huey' Hewitson was famous for one (along with the teatowel plate wiping, of course).
Yes, we're talking about the humble moustache.
Face fluff, handlebar, testosterone indicator; call it what you like, but in OnFood's opinion there's just simply not enough of them in cuisine these days.
Until now, that is, with the hugely successful Movember initiative now targeting the restaurant industry in Australia.
The Restaurant Challenge aims to see restaurants go face to face in the search of Mo glory and ultimate bragging rights.
Chefs around the country will have the opportunity to showcase their creativity and finesse as they grow and nurture what Movember says is the best in local produce: an authentic moustache.
Movember - "the month formally known as November" - is an annual charity
event that sees 'Mo Bros' around the world (supported by their 'Mo Sistas')
growing moustaches for 30 days to raise awareness, support and funding
for serious men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and male
depression.
Paul Raynor (pictured), executive chef at The Baths Middle Brighton in Melbourne, is one chef taking part in the challenge.
“It is a
great way for my team to interact with each other and our customers as
well as raise awareness and funds for men’s health. The hospitality
industry is well supported by Melburnians and I know that Movember is
too," says Raynor.
"I challenge restaurants and all hospitality businesses across the
State to get on board this awesome event and show off their Mo’s with
gusto”.
The Restaurant Challenge will see dining spots around the country compete in five categories, aptly named MO Maestro, MOtivation, MOmentous, LocoMOtion, and MO Money.
The most specifically targeted of these, Momentous, looks set to be interesting, with it awarded to a restaurant's most creatively Mo-themed dish. |
