Melbourne Central opens vibrant new food precinct
The GPT Group’s Melbourne Central has launched the first stage of a $30
million redevelopment with the opening of The Dining Hall - a unique
food precinct.
The stylish new food court should become a major draw card to the
centre, located on the corner of Swanston and LaTrobe Sts in the CBD, a
short walk from the newly revamped Myer Melbourne and the David Jones
stores.
GPT says The Dining Hall is intended to deliver "ever-better
outcomes for retailers and shoppers alike," enhancing the centre by
delivering a vibrant new food experience.
"The Dining Hall will
offer a wide range of fast food, freshly made and casual dining options
in a contemporary, natural light-filled space with five different
seating areas including two terraces," said Justin Shannon, GM Melbourne
Central.
As well as servicing CBD workers and shoppers The Dining Hall will be a
natural hub for many university students studying near Melbourne
Central, offering free WiFi access and a relaxed environment for
customers to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack on the go.
Architect-designed elements of The Dining Hall include an intricate
butterfly mosaic feature-wall, unique precincts within the space and a
newly-created entrance from Elizabeth St.
Shannon said The Dining
Hall will service a prominent gap in the current CBD food offering
between slow food dining and fast food, with an emphasis on medium to
premium ‘grab-and-go’
fresh options.”
“To the CBD worker, our food offer is equally
important as our fashion offer with 28 per cent of people who work in
the city saying that food is the main purpose of their visit to
Melbourne Central,
the same percentage as fashion,” Shannon said.
The Dining Hall is
the first stage of a comprehensive redevelopment plan set to
reinvigorate the centre. The next stage will be a new on-trend specialty
retail precinct featuring iconic international
and Australian brands.
Melbourne Central will also introduce
improved entries to Melbourne Central at Latrobe and Swanston Sts and a
new entry directly from Elizabeth St, enhancing connection with the city
pedestrian grid and the Melbourne Central office tower. |
