A woman was fined $3600 and ordered to pay $15,000 in costs this week, after The District Court dismissed an appeal on sentences relating to convictions and fines imposed by the Chief Industrial Magistrate concerning three offences under the Food Act.

The offences occurred during the seizure of raw milk products allegedly being sold at an organic food market in Sydney’s Bondi Junction in 2007:

Raw milk cheese has been gaining steady support over the years, with the Slow Food Australia currently petitioning parliament for the right to produce raw milk cheeses in Australia:

Raw milk cheese products have increasingly been allowed on sale in countries such as the US, UK, and Ireland.

Some of Australia’s food industry icons, including Tetsuya Wakuda and Margaret Fulton have also come out in support of the campaign.

What do you think?

Should raw milk cheese be allowed?
