More than 300 premium cheeses will feature at the 2010 Australian Speciality Cheesemakers’ Association (ASCA) Cheese Show on August 21 and 22.
Cheese lovers and cheesemakers from across the nation are expected at the Crown complex in Melbourne for the two-day event, which is supported by Dairy Australia.
The annual celebration of artisan cheesemaking begins with experts judging about 300 cheeses on Saturday morning. Winners will be announced at a presentation dinner on Saturday night at Crown’s Studio 3, overlooking the river. The four-course menu will feature champion cheeses, wines by Mt Langhi Ghiran and beers by Grand Ridge Brewery. (Tickets at $120/head. Ph 03 96875655 or ian@meribel.com.au)
A large turnout is expected for the Public Cheese Show at the Palladium Room, at Crown the following day. From 11am until 4pm, the room will transform into a market square surrounded by cheesemakers’ stands offering unlimited cheese tastings, along with beer and wine tasting.
David Brown, ASCA President said: “This show offers something more than world champion cheeses. It showcases speciality creations not entered into international competitions that are every bit as good as the big-name medallists. The ASCA cheese show gives cheese lovers a true glimpse of the skill of Australia’s specialty cheesemaking sector.
“The recent winning entries by Australian cheesemakers in international competitions demonstrate that Australian cheeses are equal to and often better than their European counterparts. We are delighted to see this international recognition of the quality and excellence on offer here in Australia,” he said.
