Gluten free TV show premieres

The first and only television cooking show solely dedicated to the recently discovered but fast-growing gluten free lifestyle which is now followed by an estimated 1 billion people globally will premiere from April 18 in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide in prime time on Channel 31.

Gluten Freedom will be a weekly TV show (plus website) that unlocks the barrier to delicious gluten free cooking at home and takes away the mystery of how to cope with the gluten free lifestyle so daunting to it’s novice subscribers.

Presented by Fabian Fitzgerald with Dr Sue Shepherd, Gluten Freedom is a ground-breaking show that not only inspires the gluten free cook but also introduces prominent Australians who talk about their own gluten free way of life.

Creator, cook and host, Fabian Fitzgerald said that, in 2010, as many as 1 in 4 Australians will subscribe to a gluten free diet. That’s 5 million here alone not yet catered for on TV. And the international audience that will be able to access our website is growing at an enormous rate.

“In Gluten Freedom we’ll meet and cook with entertaining personalities and get their tips on how to succeed with a gluten free lifestyle. Plus we talk to the experts and report on the latest gluten free products on the market,” said Fabian.

The first episode features former World Champion marathon runner, Rob de Castella who, in 2005, launched a new gourmet bakery and café, ‘Deeks’ specialising in quality grain free breads, cakes, pasta, pies and deserts. Along with his bakeries, he has a rapidly growing wholesale business.

“There are so many people out there who have a compromised quality of life because of the foods they have access to. One day this lady walked in to the bakery and asked what products are gluten free? And I said, well… everything. And she broke into tears. She said it’d just been so long since she’d had a chance to eat these kinds of products,” said Rob de Castella.

Co-host Dr Sue Shepherd, an internationally renowned dietician and nutritionist, is also an expert gluten free chef and the author of four gluten free cookbooks.“I love what I do! It’s no secret I have Coeliac Disease myself so I live this personally. My job as a dietician – I live this professionally. I just love tastes and flavours and expressing how much you can still enjoy, even if you have food intolerances.” said Sue.

The on-air team is complemented by Food Stylist Jo Richardson (Fresh TV and food consultant on magazines Family Circle, Better Homes & Gardens and Good Taste) and Roving Reporter Carmelle Pavan (Beauty and the Beast).

Gluten Freedom is produced in Melbourne and sponsored by Massell. It premieres on Melbourne and Geelong C31 (8.30pm - 18 April), Television Sydney (8:00pm - 20 April), Queensland Community TV and Adelaide C31(times TBA).
